Green leaves make you high on life

I have had a very odd weekend, where in some way I'm feeling less then impressed. I feel I should have done more activity on the weekend now I've fully recovered from my cold.

Enough of that emotional stuff, eww.

Lets move onto that green leafy substance that some love and some dislike. It makes your feel warm and fuzzy inside yet some people say it isn't too great for you.

Weed... wait no sorry, Green tea.

I was Internet searching all sorts of things that  do not need to be discussed *shifty eyes*
then started looking up nutrition and read that 3-4 cups of green tea before exercise can sustain your endurance levels from 8-24%.

trust my link ;)

This in fact is a rat not a mouse, but it's just too cool!
The test was done one mice, sure I am no doctor yet I am going to go out on a limb and suggest are we that different from mice :P. Who am I to think I am better then a smelly little mouse. The Green tea works by stimulating fatty acid which is a promising strategy for improving endurance capacity.

Me and Green tea are not the best of friends now as when I threw up the other week, Green tea was one of the corporates, it may have not been the leader yet it was certainty contending for it. I have now forgiven tea and I'm trying to push forward with the friendship, I had some at lunch today with tofu and all seems to be fine. I personally cannot be bothered to drink 4 cups of green tea before I go for a ride. Sculling one boiling hot cup on Saturday was one too many, or 3 to little, depending how you look at things. I hope the mice around the world are not disappointed in my efforts.

Green tea seems to calm me, cause it makes my tummy feel warm,  and No I am not a baby. I usually am pretty mellow so more calming may not be the best thing for me.

Next weekend I am going on a ride with my dad at Ipswich, I cannot wait to make him suffer, is that mean? Sure he raised me, fed and sheltered me but I need my revenge, Since me and my brother have been able to walk he has been taking us on hikes, after my teenage years of hell, he seemed to stop asking, maybe his traumatised, and so he should be (teenagers do bite).

Too tired to party

It's saturday night and I'm at home blogging due to me being the most popular person on the planet and my lack of desire to do anything.

Me and my friend Lara went on a ride this morning.

5:30 am: BEEP BEEP BEEP

SIGH, time to get up and ride. It's not that I don't love riding it's just as I didn't get much sleep last night as I went to a friends 21st.

5:45 am: BEEP BEEP BEEP

My alarm needs to relax but it is reliable I will give it that.

I get up, shower and after my porridge and green tea I'm ready to go.

We ride the same route as the prior week.

Vomit Free since 2008

Vomit free since 08, no longer :(, this sickness is ruining my stats. Carrot is just as orange when it come back up to party.

In hindsight maybe the shop ride this morning was not the best idea, but I cannot see into the future...*sigh*

Shop ride

Today was my first tag along to my local shop ride.
I've been a bit sick yet thought it would be good for me to get out in the fresh air, yet maybe should have held back a little bit more.

We rode around 25 km (a version of the river loop), It was alot of fun and the people seemed nice.
I think it is good for my training to go once a week with a group as it will improve my skills, fitness (as it pushes me more) and i'll meet new people who also enjoy to ride. I wasn't riding hard out this morning, so I might bring more game next week.

There were four other riders in the group this morning, The Gentleman who owns the shop a young guy and two women. They have coffee after yet sadly I won't be able to join as I have to get to work.

The man who owns the shop said they usually have 10 riders yet as the weather has been a bit odd, I guess people weren't sure if they should turn up or not. It didn't rain this morning but it was Muddy and a few puddles.

I am excited for next week, I will try and do the route again on thursday morning so I know it a bit better.

I am off to bed to rest and recover from this cold

Training plan

Tommorrow I'm going for my first group ride at my local shop, they have a beginner and an intermediate ride, I'll start with the beginner, where the average speed is 25km/h, the owner of the shop invited me when I was buying a book from the shop, I was happy he invited me as I wanted to ride with a group to increase my skills and speed, even though I was most likely going to turn up without an invite, yes i'm a party crasher.

I have set out a new training plan, where I will ride 4 days a week,
Monday- 1 hr
Tuesday- 50 min (group ride)
Thursday- 1 hr
Saturday- 2 hr
My weekly milage will be approximately 100km.

This weekend I am going to go to Ipswich with my dad and while he checks out the birds (the animals, not women) I will try the 50km standard route of the Ipswich 100. I was looking at the 100km classic route yet it seemed hilly, and as I am sick and haven't been training I will ride the 50km.

Mt Cootha you sly pile of rock you

I have never noticed how steep Mt Cootha is, let me tell you, it is steep.

I have had a cold for around 4 days now and was not feeling the best on Friday yet still wanted to go for my Saturday weekly long ride.

I rode 20 km to Mt Cootha along the centenary bikeway, so I was already warmed up so sadly I cannot blame that. As I was riding up I stopped and unclipped my pedal, My friend Lara continued to ride while I stood on the side of the road and got ready to turn around, yet I saw her get to a sign around 50m higher then I was, just about when I was going to start to go down I did a 180 turn and started to pedal up the hill with one foot clipped in, continuously trying to clip my other foot in, after about 20 attempts, I heard the lovely clip sound and pushed myself to get to the same point Lara did, this was due to my pride and I didn't want to think back on the day knowing I could have tried harder.

After Mt Cootha we headed through the back of toowong as I was on a hunt for a cafe, we rode along the river bike path all the way to QUT, I had never been on this path before and it was really beautiful, we went along the Goodwill bridge to Southbank where we had smoothies and eggs at a cafe on grey st. We then came home via Coronation drive through UQ then over the Green bridge to Fairfield and then continued home through the back of Graceville.

I felt great while riding, yet later when I got home I got a headache as my body was pissed off at me, and rightly so, we are finally coming to an agreement and I'm feeling better now.

The Stats I have from the ride do not entail the complete ride as I turned off my tracker part way, yet it has a majority of the ride.
I spilt it into two rides, to Mt cootha then from Cootha to home.

To Mt Cootha-

Cootha to home via city-

Our speed on the way home was faster due to less hills and due to a banana smoothie which was AMAZING, everything tastes better after a good ride.

I may not be able to work tommorrow as I don't want to give the gift of sickness to my Co-Workers, yet I think I'll be up for a ride tomorrow morning. I might go my usual ride through UQ then back through fairfield or I could go to QUT again along the river, depends on how adventurous I feel.

I am increasing my training, 3 weekday morning rides (20km), and 1 long weekend ride (over 40km).
I just like to ride and push myself yet don't train using intervals, but I may start after all the rave about them. I like to ride at a high cadence and I don't stand up on the pedals much but may need to try that more so when I need to I have a better style. I have alot to work on in regards to my cycling and I like to go into every ride with a goal.

My First Time

There is a time in everybody's life where they have their first, their first baby, their first sexy time (most likely not in that order) and their first flat tire.
Today I had my first flat on my new road bike.

I did not have leavers to get my tire off yet a old man (Peter) helped me and we got my problem solved.

The man who helped me was called Peter, I'm not a religious person, but was he the disciple that used to hang with the big J (Jesus), that is inconclusive, yet highly likely.

12.02.011

Today me and my friend Lara rode to the base of Mt cootha along the centenary highway bike path.

I woke up at 5:30 am and got straight up as I was late last week and didn't want her to think i was a tardy person all the time. I ride from my house to hers which is around 5 km, I ride slowly as I was on my new bike and still getting used to it, clipping in and out when I could for practice. When I get to Lara's she was not waiting outside for me like usual, I text and ring her but her phone is often on silent, lucky she can read minds and I was only waiting for 2 minutes, I didn't mind waiting I just wanted her to see I could be on time for once.

I show Lara my new bike and she marvels at its sexiness, Her bike is also very nice. I say hello to Lara's mum who may be the sweetest person in the world, then we start rolling.

We hit the bikeway around 6:45 am as we had a few km's to go uphill before we go onto it, I was strong on the first 5 km, mainly due to Lara being sleepy and me already being warmed up. Then as soon as we got to the bikeway she took the lead and I followed, the centenary bikeway is one of my favourite routes.

It was a successful ride, I was finally on a rode bike and could match her speed. We did the same ride 1 week earlier yet I was on a hybrid bike and trying hard yet not hard enough to keep up to her pace. We don't push ourselves too hard as we still like to chat at times and have fun, yet by then end I am tired and we sit in her kitchen and chat and drink smoothies, This morning we got pancakes from  Mac Donalds which is healthy if you have an orange juice with it.

Here are our ride stats:

I gave blood yesterday morning so I might have been a bit off my A game. It was the first time I've ever given blood, it was exciting, I think i'll give it more often. I've never had a serious Illness before and I feel for people who go through that pain.

New Bike

Alot has been happening with my riding the first few weeks, the main event was that I got a new bike last week.

Its a 2010 Cannondale six feminine 4, and it's lovely, I took it on a 30km ride this morning and it went great, my friend was jealous and I was happy. It has a carbon fork and rear triangle, making it very lightweight,  no one wants a fat bike.

It has sram rival gearing which is slightly complicated but an effective gearing system which I will keep using.

51 cm frame

I have also been practising using clipless pedals and it is going well, by well I mean haven't fallen over yet, but I still look a bit unko at times.

I have been thinking alot about my training and most liekly should stop thinking and just train more, it's hard when working fultime and studying part time to pull myself out of bed at 5 am and be excited to excerise. Although as soon as I get on the road I feel amazing and Happy that I chose to get up. But I do have a simple life, and I can imagine it will only be harder to continue to train while I get older and hopefully more mature.

I still have my eyes set on completing the mt cootha challenge now only 1 month away, I need to give mt cootha a try before the day, In two weekends time I think I will give it my first shot.

I am going for another ride tommorrow, most likely a bit more relaxed then my one today, maybe 20 km at a steady pace.
