Duelling with a Lance

In 2 days time I will be riding with the champion of the cycling world, Lance Armstrong.

He just rode to Adelaide in the tour down under and is coming to Brisbane to ride to raise money for the recent floods we had.

I first read Lance's book it's not about the bike when I was 14, it was one of the first books I couldn't put down. It was an honest and revealing book about struggle, love and triumph.

The ride is a 25 km charity ride monday morning at 10:30 am.

I cannot wait, I will definitely write a blog about the ride.

cable ties, sexy or not?

I may have not hit my 40 km target but still donated my set out money, as people should not suffer for my lack of ability to ride a distance.

My ride today was not my 40 km wishful thinking ride, yet it's always good to aim high. I don't like to think of not hitting a target as failing I like to make it something to aim for next time.
I rode 17.36 km in 59:51 mins, I wish to increase my speed, the area I was riding around was very hilly, which lead for an interesting ride.

Below are the statistics of the ride:
Ride details
Speed for each km of ride

On my ride today a nice old man rode up to me started chatting his heart out about river systems etc, he had those cable ties, which people put on their helmets to keep away birds. I will now google and find an image:
The man looked oddly similar to this guy. If you can all stop adding this to your private porn collections and concentrate we can move on.

I see there are pros and cons to the cable ties
Pro: birds cannot eat your eye balls
Con: you look mega lame
Pro: an accident will be avoided due to a bird surprising you
Con: you look mega lame

The debate is still up in the air in my books, I personally will not convert to putting them on my helmet for another 40 years, yet I will not judge people who wear them as eye balls are important, I'd much rather be rocking a pair of sunnies though, this model on the left is rocking both.

First weekend training

In Brisbane there have been devastating floods over the past week, my house was not affected yet I still feel affected due to my friends and neighbours being in trouble.  I have helped some friends and neighbours clean their houses etc, and will continue to support anyone who needs it. All the best to the flood victims. For every km I ride today I will donate a dollar to the Flood appeal. There are so many volunteers, that the streets are full of cars and people are finding it hard to get to their homes.

It's sunday and I've got to get off my bumble bee (keeping it G rated for the kiddies) and get moving.
If i was religious I'd be at church today yet I am not so I will need to go and cherish the most important thing, nature. That is a huge reason I like cycling, riding down 35 km/h into the wind, wind makes me happy, but me and wind don't get along when it is pushing against me.

Lets get into my races now,
I am training for the Mt Cootha challenge  (March 20 2011), there are other races later in the year I also wish to enter. I am not part of a bike club or association yet may join one once I train and have completed a few fun races.

The Mt Cootha challenge is a ball busting 80 km ride, which basically goes all around Brisbane, and has a 2.3 km time trial while riding up mt cootha (9 percent gradient).

Brisbane is  great place to train for hills as it is bumpier then a fat lady.
Today I plan on going for a 40 km ride, I may not succeed, but who cares.
I live in the western suburbs of Brisbane, so i will ride towards Indooroopilly and then to St lucia, could even face some hills in Taringa.

If you are reading this and have an Iphone I've found a great cycling application which is helping me alot, its called Cyclemeter, and it records maps of where you ride, graphs with speed and times, without it i'd be no where... well i'd most likely still be okay, just lacking the App...It also works for walking and running. It is a hefty $2.95 so if you can resist that extra 30 seconds with that prostitute you'll have enough.

I don't like to diet as i love food! but I have placed a few restrictions, no alcohol, no soft drinks, no takeaway (unless it's a curry), and I've been trying to limit processed foods as much as possible.

40 km ride here I come!

My Blog Address

Hello Readers
I have a few things to clarify before I get into things, firstly, My blog Address is : http://couldrideallnight.blogspot.com
And I realized after I wrote it that it could have many meanings, wait actually I realized as I was writing it, I don't want to start lying already. So if you are into some sort of donkey porn I believe you are in the wrong place (but who knows where my blog could lead) , I am sure there are plenty of blogs that may satisfy your needs.

Second thing to clarify, well there is no second thing I just thought saying I have a few things to claify was a bit more griping.

I hope not to be one of those people who just write a normal blog yet leave out the juicy bits, I will leave them in, If I'm on a long ride and poop my pants, you will be the first to hear about it.

This Blog is mainly some sort of egotistic joy ride I am going on but seriously It is about riding but not that sort, It is about me preparing for a year of cycle events. I have always enjoyed to dabble in cycling, afternoon rides etc, but have recently decided to step it up a gear.

I will get into my riding in a second this post was just to introduce the blog and what it will contain, which is basically a whole lot of shit :), enjoy.
