First weekend training

In Brisbane there have been devastating floods over the past week, my house was not affected yet I still feel affected due to my friends and neighbours being in trouble.  I have helped some friends and neighbours clean their houses etc, and will continue to support anyone who needs it. All the best to the flood victims. For every km I ride today I will donate a dollar to the Flood appeal. There are so many volunteers, that the streets are full of cars and people are finding it hard to get to their homes.

It's sunday and I've got to get off my bumble bee (keeping it G rated for the kiddies) and get moving.
If i was religious I'd be at church today yet I am not so I will need to go and cherish the most important thing, nature. That is a huge reason I like cycling, riding down 35 km/h into the wind, wind makes me happy, but me and wind don't get along when it is pushing against me.

Lets get into my races now,
I am training for the Mt Cootha challenge  (March 20 2011), there are other races later in the year I also wish to enter. I am not part of a bike club or association yet may join one once I train and have completed a few fun races.

The Mt Cootha challenge is a ball busting 80 km ride, which basically goes all around Brisbane, and has a 2.3 km time trial while riding up mt cootha (9 percent gradient).

Brisbane is  great place to train for hills as it is bumpier then a fat lady.
Today I plan on going for a 40 km ride, I may not succeed, but who cares.
I live in the western suburbs of Brisbane, so i will ride towards Indooroopilly and then to St lucia, could even face some hills in Taringa.

If you are reading this and have an Iphone I've found a great cycling application which is helping me alot, its called Cyclemeter, and it records maps of where you ride, graphs with speed and times, without it i'd be no where... well i'd most likely still be okay, just lacking the App...It also works for walking and running. It is a hefty $2.95 so if you can resist that extra 30 seconds with that prostitute you'll have enough.

I don't like to diet as i love food! but I have placed a few restrictions, no alcohol, no soft drinks, no takeaway (unless it's a curry), and I've been trying to limit processed foods as much as possible.

40 km ride here I come!
